Digipaks

A digipak is a gatefolded card or paperboard that has one or more plastic trays which has the ability to hold and store, CD's or DVD's. They are often used when music artists and film companies release special edition merchandise that must be placed in a digipak as there is more information, other than the CD or DVD itself. They are used for special or limited edition releases as they fold out in a book style which allows the customer to experience another medium other than the music and get added information.

This is a digipak for the band "the xx" which is a three part digipak that has three sections and two disc trays, this works well as a digipak as it clearly shows the bands cover, the music list and extra information on the band. By using the digipak the artist has clearly shown how their album is dark and cold with slow tempo songs, also it reveals to the customer that there are two members of the band. On the cover of the digipak there is the name of the band (the xx) and the album name (ISLANDS). This is a clean, neat digipak which gives the customer a viewing experience as well as an audio one. The aqua blue colour of the digipak contrasts well with the black silouhettes of the band members, as the album itself is on filled with spooky riffs and slow tempo songs, this digipak cvommunicates to the audience everything a digipak should do, it gives a clear track list in a white font which works well with both the blue and black colours. Also it is able to show to the audience that this band is a duet, as the picture on the cover has two silhouettes, this digipak would be attractive to audience as its clean look with contrasting blues, blacks and whites which give an insight into the songs that are on this albuim.

This is a digipak for Rihanna, this digipak very much focuses on her own image as her face is on all the covers of the digipak, this is for her album 'LOUD' and there is a strong them to this album which is red which is already associated with Rihanna because of her red hair. This works well as a digipak as it shows her image to the audience and the audience attain a booklet of added information which could be collected or used to read up on what Rihanna put into her new album. Because of the close up of Rihanna on the front cover of the digipak it communicates a message that the album is personal, and that her hair is red and the colours surrounding her are red shows that this could possibly her favourite colour thus again gives the digipak an intimate feel. The font of the album is a thin grey/ white one, this makes it unclear when on top of the cover as it is hard to read from a far, the inside of the digipak contains a three side picture of Rihanna, which makes it clear to the audience that this album is just about her and her own work, the two CD digipak gives the audience a bonus disk which means the audience attain something extra for buying the album.
